Below we have Sir Alec Guinness’s first UK television interview to publicise Star Wars in 1977 with the then king of chat shows, Michael Parkinson. He is effusive and full of praise for the film and its creator George Lucas, deeming it to be have “a marvellous, healthy innocence”. Of course in his diaries Guinness could be contrary and waspish, but that could easily be put down to his unease with the “mania” of a new kind of fandom the film helped engender.
