Derelict: Fusing Prometheus With Its “Alien DNA”

Here’s an interesting exercise – Prometheus and Alien edited together, fusing Prometheus with, as Ridley Scott described the link between the two, its “Alien DNA”. As the editor Job Willins states:

“Prometheus’ wasn’t exactly an Alien prequel, but this treats it as such by intercutting the events of Alien with Prometheus in a dual narrative structure. ‘Derelict’ is also in black & white to better marry the visual quality of the two originals (and also because both films look great in black & white). Roughly 30 minutes has been cut from Prometheus and about an hour of Alien has been used in its place. Some content from the deleted scenes of Prometheus was also used.”

UPDATE: This video has been removed from Vimeo at the request of 20th Century Fox. The latest cut is now listed on fanedit.info and  on fanedit.org. For alimited time, you can view it on Vimeo via this link (password is squidbaby). Daniel, AKA Job Willins states that

There’s a new edit of Derelict out in the world. We’ll just call it the Improved Cut as opposed to the Vimeo Cut that was previously available on… Vimeo…

Of course I can’t distribute either of these cuts personally, but the Improved Cut is currently listed on Fanedit.info and Fanedit.org.
So how is this cut different?

Running Time: It’s 2:27:44 instead of 2:29:00, due to some tightening in a few scenes.

Changes: Some improved transitions between scenes and a few image and audio adjustments. Also adjusted some of the titles.

File Size/Quality: It’s a larger file size due to a higher bitrate encoding. Both the Improved and Vimeo edits are 720p mp4 files.

So, until you download the entire thing, here is the trailer:
